Annabelle Hoffman-Krewitz, nicknamed Tiger, played the accordian with local & foreign musicians, and loved the Louisiana culture.

I have A LOT more coming on Miss Annabelle!

The following are stories remember by Miss Annabelle's niece Sylvia.  Syliva is my aunt - here are her words:

I do remember a story about Anna Belle when she was young and took a leave of absence from teaching to study in Mexico City. She drove her old Model T car over the mountains to Mexico City with another lady teacher.  Once, when the car broke down, she managed to fix it with a long hairpin.  At night when they stopped she would pay someone to remove the tires and put the car up on blocks for the night.  As this was during World War II and there was a shortage of tires and they would have been stolen if left on the car.

When Anna Belle and Roy visited Europe, she went to mass at the vatican and was kneeling at the communion rail.  When the priest approched to give her communion she closed her eyes and stuck out her tongue and waited but nothing happened.  So she opened her eyes to see the priest leaning over her saying Anna Belle, what are you doing here?   It was a priest from La. that she knew.   Just afterward, she felt someone next to her elbow her and looked sideways to see Dudley J. LeBlanc Leaning over to her and saying Anna Belle , what are you doing here?   That reminds me of the joke about someone standing in a large crowd at the vatican when the pope comes out on the balcony and they ask the person next to them, who is that man in the white robes?, and the person replies, I dont know, but the woman standing next to him is Anna Belle Hoffman Krewitz of Breaux Bridge!

When my husband Bob and I were living in Lake Charles and I was expecting Brett, we drove to Hot Springs, Arkansas and stayed at Roy's cabin on Lake Hamilton with mother , daddy, AnnaBelle and Roy (Annabelle's husband). We went shopping in Hot Springs one day and as we were walking along I noticed a very pretty Indian woman and her escort walking on the opposite side of the street. She had long robes and a red dot on her forehead. At just that time, the woman looked over at us and called out "Anna Belle!". It turned out that she had met Anna Belle at a meeting somewhere. I feel sure if Anna Belle had been a man she would probably become govenor.

Another time, Annabelle and her friend J.C. Broussard were following another car to a reception in New Iberia and the people in the first car knew where the house was. Unfortunately, thet got separated in traffic so J. C. drove around a little while until they spotted a house with a lot of cars out front. They went in to the party and Anna Belle immediately made herself at home talking to people. Shortly she was surrounded by people and was having a wondeful time being the center of attention. After an hour, J. C. managed finally to get her aside and asked "Anna Belle, do you know any of these people?" She answered, "no, I thought you knew them." He then said, "I believe we are at the wrong party!" She immediately asked someone who the hostess was and went over to her to apoligize and explain the mistake. The woman responded at once that she knew immediately that they were very nice people and obviously there had been some mistake. She said that she didn't say a word because she was so grateful that they had come. They had just made her party a succress! And furthermore, they could not leave until the party was over!
